Professional Information

R-fine is a product for use in mesotherapy, a treatment method whereby substances are injected into the dermis over a number of sessions. R-fine is a solution of non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. This is a natural substance found in the skin. The amount reduces as the skin ages. Because of this, the skin loses elasticity and develops wrinkles. Mesotherapy with
R-fine partly neutralizes this effect: it temporarily smoothes out fine and superficial wrinkles.

How R-fine works
R-fine is sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) of synthetic origin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural essential substance of the skin. It is situated in the intercellular matrix of the skin and ensures elasticity and strength. The injection of synthetic hyaluronic acid supplements the body’s own hyaluronic acid.

Hayaluronic acid can absorb numerous times its own weight in water because of the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bonds. This explains the visco-elastic property of the solution. The way in which R-fine works is based partly on this quality: R-fine contains about 79% moisture (=water): it ensures rehydration of the skin. This allows for shock absorption and the structural stability of the connective tissue, which results in skin with greater elasticity and the smoothing out of wrinkles.

As well as this, skin cells are stimulated to produce more of their own hyaluronic acid.

R-fine composition: hyaluronic acid
R-fine is sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid). This is a polysaccharide in the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) family, with ultra-hydrating properties. It is formed by the repetition of disaccharide units made out of the monosaccharide glucose, namely glucuronic acid and N-acetyl-glucosamine.

R-fine consists of a solution of 1.5% sodium hyaluronate (15 mg/ mL). In this concentration, intermolecular hydrogen bonds are formed which give the solution its visco-elastic properties. It is produced by fermentation of the Streptococcus equi bacteria. The product is then purified. The result is a product with an average molecule weight of 2 million Daltons that is practically protein free (< 0,004 %), as a result of which the risk of allergic reactions is reduced to practically zero. The risk of allergic reactions is small because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the human body. As with all injections, there is a minimal risk of infection and of an allergic reaction, but the risk is a small one (< 0.1 %). Any infection or allergic reaction has no effect on the therapy result.

Because hyaluronic acid is injected in a form which is called a non-cross-linked form, it is quickly broken down in the body by enzymes, free radicals and mechanical friction. The effect on the skin is thus temporary; a number of days, up to a maximum of two weeks. To achieve a more permanent result, the therapy consists of a course of treatment that is followed by maintenance therapy. The treatment plan can be tailored to the condition of the skin. In general, the following therapy timetable will be put into effect: 3 treatment sessions every 15 days, followed by 3 treatment sessions every month. After that, maintenance therapy once or twice per year.

Applications of R-fine

R-fine can be used on ageing skin of the:
- Face
- Neck
- Chest/ Lower neckline

R-fine is suitable for all skin types.

Injection technique

This product should be injected into the superficial dermis with a 30G hypodermic syringe (2 to 4 mm deep). The linear tracking technique is recommended. The amount to be injected depends on the required results. There must be equal distribution over the treatment area. After the injections, the treated area should be lightly massaged in order to shape R-fine into the desired contours. Over-correction should be avoided. The initial treatment can be supplemented with touch-up injections. As well as this, R-fine can be injected with the help of an injection system developed specially for this therapy. No anaesthetic is necessary.
